How to make a payment voucher in three steps.

What is a payment voucher?

A payment voucher is an internal record of a payment made by a business, showing who was paid, how much, what for and who approved it. It is often used for cash payments, petty cash and expenses that have no supplier invoice.

What is the usual payment voucher format?

A voucher number and date, the payee, a description of the payment, the amount in figures and often in words, the payment method, and signatures for preparing, approving and receiving. Account codes help when the voucher goes to your bookkeeper.

How is a payment voucher different from a receipt?

A receipt is issued by the person who receives money, while a payment voucher is prepared by the business that pays. When the payee signs the voucher, it serves as their confirmation too. For receipts you issue, use the receipt generator.

Can I write the amount in words?

Yes. Add a detail field named Amount in words and type the figure out, which many accounts teams use to make the amount harder to alter.

Does it cost anything to make a payment voucher?
