Freelance Invoice Template
Freelancing means you're the talent, the project manager and the accounts department. A clean invoice handles that last role quietly, with your rate, the scope delivered and a due date nobody can miss. Use it for hourly work, fixed-fee projects or a mix of both.

What to include on a freelance invoice
Your legal name and business details
Add the name you're paid under, plus a business name if you use one. Clients often need it to match the tax form you gave them.
Scope delivered
Describe what was actually completed rather than just the project title. Specific deliverables make approvals faster.
Rate basis
Make clear whether each line is hourly, per piece or a fixed fee, so the math is obvious at a glance.
Payment methods
List the ways a client can pay and any reference they should include. Fewer questions mean faster deposits.

Billing tips for freelancers.
Ask new clients for a deposit
A partial payment upfront filters out projects that were never going to be paid, and it covers your time if plans change.
Send the invoice with the final files
Momentum matters. Billing at handoff keeps the invoice attached to the moment the client is happiest with the work.
Give out-of-scope work its own line
When requests drift beyond the brief, bill them separately. It shows the client what changed and protects your base rate.
