Automatic payment reminders

Reminders that sound like you.

Set a polite schedule once. Remit follows up before and after the due date, in your words, and stops the moment you're paid.

  • Flexible schedules

Before, on and after the due date, as often as you choose.

  • Your words

Edit every message, with the client's name and balance filled in.

  • Stops when paid

No awkward reminders after the money has arrived.

  • Optional late fees

Add a fee automatically when an invoice runs late.

How it works.

  1. Step 1: Set the schedule

Choose when reminders go out: a gentle nudge before the due date, a clear note on the day and firmer follow-ups after. Send them as often as you choose. You set the schedule once, not invoice by invoice.

  2. Step 2: Write it in your words

Start from the considerate default or write your own message. Placeholders fill in the client's name, the invoice number and the balance, so every reminder reads as personal. Keep the early ones friendly and the later ones plain.

  3. Step 3: Let it run

Remit sends each reminder on time and stops the moment the invoice is paid. Switch them off for any client or invoice, and add a late fee automatically if your terms include one.

Write it once, in your own voice.

Start from a considerate default or write your own. Placeholders fill in the client, invoice number and balance so every reminder reads as personal. Each message in the schedule can say something different, from a friendly heads-up to a firm final note.

3 days after the due dateOn

Hi client,

A gentle note that invoice number for balance is now a few days past due. You can pay online in a minute using the link below.

Thank you, Ana

A schedule that does the chasing.

Choose when reminders go out and Remit handles the rest. Turn reminders off for any client with one switch. Paid invoices drop out of the schedule on their own.

  • A gentle nudge before the due date
  • A clear note on the day
  • Firmer follow-ups after

Who it's for.

  • Trades with many small invoices

A handyman sends a stack of small invoices every week and has no time to chase each one. One schedule covers them all: a note a few days before the due date, another on the day and a firmer one a week after. Nothing slips while he is on the next job, and paid invoices drop out of the schedule on their own.

  • Freelancers who dislike chasing

A freelance illustrator writes her reminders once, in her own friendly tone, with the client's name and balance filled in. Clients get a polite note on the due date and a firmer one later. She never writes an awkward follow-up by hand, and her oldest client, who always pays on time, has reminders switched off.

  • Firms with agreed late fees

A bookkeeping firm sets out a late fee in every engagement letter. Its reminders add the fee automatically when an invoice runs late, so the policy is applied the same way to every client. Nobody decides case by case. Every client agreed to the fee before work began, and the later reminders mention it in the firm's own words.

Questions, answered.

Can I edit the reminder emails?

Yes. Every reminder is editable, and placeholders insert the client's name, invoice number and balance. Start from the default wording or replace it entirely. Reminders are included in Pro and Business, and Business adds a custom sending domain.

Will reminders go out after a client pays?

No. Reminders stop automatically as soon as an invoice is marked paid, including when the client pays online. There is nothing to cancel by hand.

Can I turn reminders off for one client?

Yes. Switch them off per client or per invoice, and the rest of your schedule carries on as before. It suits clients who always pay on time or who have agreed a different arrangement with you.

What should a reminder say?

Keep it short, friendly and specific: the invoice number, the amount, the due date and how to pay. Mention a late fee only if you agreed it in advance. Our reminder email templates are a good starting point.

When should payment reminders go out?

A common rhythm is a few days before the due date, on the due date, and then at intervals after it, such as 7 and 30 days overdue. Our guide on how to get paid faster sets out a full sequence.

Can reminders add a late fee?

Yes. A fee can be added automatically when an invoice runs late. Agree it with your client first and state it in your terms. Check local rules on what you may charge. Our guide to invoice payment terms shows how to word it.
