Questions, answered.

What is a goods received note?

A goods received note, or GRN, is a document a buyer prepares when a delivery arrives. It records what was received, in what quantity and condition, and who checked it.

What should a GRN include?

The GRN number and date, the supplier, the purchase order number, the supplier's delivery note number, each item and quantity received, any shortages or damage, and the signature of the person who checked the goods.

How does a GRN fit with a purchase order and an invoice?

Many accounts teams compare the purchase order, the GRN and the supplier's invoice before paying, which is known as three-way matching. You can raise the order itself with the purchase order generator.

Is a GRN the same as a delivery note?

No. The supplier sends a delivery note with the goods, and the buyer writes the GRN after checking them. The two should agree, and any difference is recorded on the GRN.

Is the goods received note generator free?

Building and previewing a GRN is free, with no sign-up. Downloading the PDF requires Pro at $11 a month or $110 a year, and you can start with a 14-day free trial without a card.

Can I leave prices off a GRN?

Yes. Turn off the price and amount columns and hide totals and tax, so the note shows items and quantities only.
