Hourly Invoice Template
An hourly invoice template turns your time log into a bill a client can check in seconds. Each line shows the work, the dates, the hours and your rate, and the totals add up as you type. Use it for consulting, design, tutoring or any work you price by the hour.

Time well spent, billed clearly.
What an hourly invoice should include
Hours on every line
Show the hours for each task or day rather than one lump total. Clients approve faster when they can match the time to their own calendar.
Your hourly rate
Put the rate beside the hours. If different work carries different rates, such as senior and support time, give each its own line.
Dates or a billing period
Note when the work happened, per line or as a period such as October 1 to 10. It ties the invoice to your time records.
What the hours produced
Name the output: a data model, a revised draft, a round of edits. A line that just says 'Consulting, 12 hours' invites questions.
Rounding and minimums
If you bill in 15-minute increments or have a minimum charge, say so in the terms so the arithmetic holds no surprises.
The full time log
For longer periods, attach the full time log. The invoice stays short, and the detail is there for anyone who wants it.

Tips for freelancers and consultants who bill by the hour.
Log time the same day
Hours recalled at the end of the month tend to come up short. A quick note at the end of each day protects your income.
Share an estimate up front
Clients are more comfortable with hourly billing when they know the likely range. Give an estimate, and say early if the work will run over.
Bill on a steady rhythm
Weekly or twice-monthly invoices keep each bill small and easy to approve. Long gaps produce large invoices, and large invoices get questioned.
