Electrical Invoice Template

Electrical work is technical, permitted and often hidden behind walls once it's done. A clear invoice records what was installed, where, and under which permit, which matters to homeowners, inspectors and future buyers. Every circuit, panel or fixture gets a line of its own.

Free. Edit online and download as a PDF.

Precise work, precisely invoiced.

What to include on an electrician invoice

  • License number

Many jurisdictions expect your electrical license number on contracts and invoices. Placing it in the header builds credibility from the first glance.

  • Permit and inspection details

Reference the permit number and inspection date for any permitted work. Homeowners will need it when they sell or insure the property.

  • Circuit-level descriptions

Name the amperage, location and purpose of each circuit or device. Vague lines like 'electrical work' invite questions.

  • Materials and equipment

List panels, breakers, chargers and wire runs, along with the warranty that applies to each.

Billing tips for electricians.

  • Pass permit fees through at cost

Put permit costs on their own line. Customers then read them as a requirement rather than part of your markup.

  • Quote common upgrades as packages

Bundled pricing for panels and chargers is simpler to approve, and you can add a line for conditions discovered on site.

  • Invoice after inspection

Billing once the inspector signs off ties payment to a clear milestone and avoids disputes about unfinished work.

Electrician invoicing, answered.

Do electricians need a license number on invoices?

Many states and municipalities require it on contracts or advertising, and some extend that to invoices. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, so confirm with your licensing board.

How do I bill for unexpected conditions?

Document the issue, get the client's approval before proceeding, and add it as a separate line with hours and materials. A photo in your records helps if anyone asks later.

Should the permit fee appear on the invoice?

Yes, ideally as its own line at cost. It shows the work was done to code and helps the client distinguish government fees from your labor.

Is this template free to use?

Yes. Open it in the invoice generator, replace the sample details with your own and download a PDF. No sign-up, no watermark.

Can I add my own logo and colours?

Yes. Upload your logo, choose a design and pick an accent colour, or enter your own hex value. 3 designs are free; Pro unlocks all 48.
